FAQs

What are the benefits of using Kiln Dried wood?

There are many benefits of burning Kiln Dried wood, here are just some:

  • Always dry, quick to light so no messing around & gets hot quickly.
  • High heat output, twice that of normally air seasoned logs, meaning you'll use half as much wood
  • Burning Kiln dried wood is better for your log burner, flue and the environment as there's less chemicals produced when soot mixes with moisture as it does with partly or unseasoned wood.

How dry are your logs?

Super dry! We only supply KILN DRIED logs, they are kiln dried at source and certified by Woodsure "Ready to Burn" less than 20% moisture content so they'll light really quickly saving you time. Your welcome to test them with yours or our moisture reader when delivered!

Will i get Hardwood & Softwood?

No. We only supply Hardwood logs.

Will i get a random mix of logs?

No. Each net of logs is a specific type, so you'll get only Ash, Oak or Birch in each net. If you order a mix then you'll get an equal split of nets of each type. Should there be an odd number the last one will be determined by our stock levels.

Whats the difference between Ash, Oak & Birch?

Ash, Oak & Birch are all Hardwoods so burn well and slow, here are some differences:

  • Ash & Oak are denser, and ours are split in larger chunks so it'll burn slower than Birch to last longer.
  • Birch is covered in a bark which can peel off so it'll light much easier than Ash or Oak.

Open Fire or Log burner - what should i use?

It really depends on a lot of factors,.

For log burners in general a mix of Ash, Oak and Birch is best. Using Birch with kindling to get the fire started and get it roaring, then add Ash and Oak once to produce a lot of heat & to make it last longer. However if you're an experienced fire starter then it's also fine to use only Ash or only Oak.

With an open fire you can't control the amount of air so it's best to use the denser woods Ash & Oak, as they'll last longer, especially if also using another fuel first like coal / smokeless ovals to start the fire.

What size are the logs?

All our logs are cut to approx, 25cm (10") in length, perfectly sized for log burners. Thickness will vary between approx. 5-15cm (2"-6").

How do they come delivered?

They all come in easily moveable 30 litre net bags, and will be delivered in a compact electric van, meaning they'll stay dry and are easily stacked where ever you need.

What size are the net bags?

They are all 30 litre.

Approx 50cmx30cmx20cm.

How do i know how much volume I need to order?

As a guide, 20 of our 30 litre nets is the equivalent of approximately 1 cubic metre (1m3) or 1 builders / ton bag when loose. All of our products use this measure as a comparison on the product pages to help you decide.

How many logs are in the nets?

They are tightly packed full. The number of logs varies with the type of wood and the way they have been split. Generally there's around 10-15 logs in each net. Ash & Oak are chunkier so there are less than Birch, but all net bags are full to the brim!

How much do the net bags weigh?

Wood should always be sold by volume, not weight. However, as a guide for you to handle a net, they are between 12-15kg's depending on the wood type. Ash & Oak are denser & heavier than Birch.

Can i test a bag or 2 before ordering a bulk order?

The minimum for delivery is 5 nets, i'll happily deliver 5 nets to you, and when you come back for a larger order you'll get the bulk price for the larger amount (less what you've already paid for 5 nets).

Will you just tip them out on my driveway or property?

Never! I'll always ask you where you want them to be placed & stacked. Never tipped and left for you to move again.

I won't be at home when you deliver?

If no one is at home then I'll always ask where you want them left. It needs to be somewhere safe and dry if there's a chance of rain to keep the logs dry. I'll always get in contact if unsure where to leave them.
